Rainforests are highly endangered. Every year, about 140,000 sq. km. of our world’s rainforests are disappearing. Rainforests are being cleared for lumber by logging companies and or for farming purposes. In places such as West Africa, where human populations are doubling every 20 years, central America and South-East Asia these rain forests are the highest at risk of completely disappearing.

The one biggest cause of wildlife extinction during the next half century is going to be due to tropical deforestation. Scientists agree that approximately 5% to 10% of tropical forest wildlife will become extinct per a ten year span using today’s rates of tropical disappearance With over 50% of wildlife taking place in tropical forests and a total of over 10 million different types of wildlife on earth, amounting to the astonishing extinction rate of more than 100 types of wild life per day.

The amazon rain forest most likely is the first to come to mind when thinking of tropical forests. Also, these is close to one third of the world’s tropical forests in Africa, Asia, and other parts of Latin America. Even the U.S has tropical forests; in Puerto Rico, Hawaii, Guam, American Samoa and the US Virgin Islands.
